One of the first birds to return to its northern nesting grounds in early spring, the stark plumage and loud raspy song of the red-winged blackbird is welcome to many birders.
Thank you for your insightful comments on my experimental abstract photo from yesterday.
Love the spread of the tail feathers - haven't caught him doing that. Your detail is great - love the singing appearance - you can almost hear him (and as loud as they are, I might!). Great shot.
Wow - fantastic capture of him mid-song! I totally agree with you, they have a very distinctive song and so lovely to hear after months of complete silence.
Lovely shot Kathy. I don't know if you are following @richardhoeg but he posted a pic of one of these a couple of days ago also so they must have arrived at the same time.
Great photo! Looks like we were both photographing the same northern arrival on about the same day. Let's hope the snow will quickly become a item of the past. Love the winter, but time for some spring photography!
