Common Loon by radiogirl

Common Loon

Common loons require long stretches of open water for take off. Some loons are fatally trapped every year in the north by constricting ice as lakes freeze in the fall. This loon is in non breeding winter plumage. Captured him while canoeing.

Thank you for your comments and favs on yesterday photo "The Lodge"

Super capture, such nice detail. I never did get the perfect shot this year. Either this guy is young or it has lost it's markings for winter.

Beautiful light - love those water droplets on the feathers. That water is so smooth. Never knew that information about loons - quite interesting.

Very nice capture of the loon Kathy, but if I may make a suggestion, Best when photographing birds and animals to leave more space in front of the animal and less in the back. This is the emil someplace to go.
