Female Pileated Woodpecker by radiogirl

Female Pileated Woodpecker

It was a nice surprise to see two pileated woodpeckers visiting our backyard today.
Pileated Woodpeckers are mostly black with white stripes on the face and neck and a flaming-red crest. Males have a red stripe on the cheek.

Thanks for stopping by your comments and favs are always appreciated.

Great to see her, Kathy. Awesome details. I haven't seen our female in quite a few months.

Excellent close-up! They are too shy to come into my feeder but I hear them in the Spring a lot.
