Wolf Portrait by randy23
I love how the curiosity in this one's expression is framed by that nipped ear!

@angiadelle those poor ears have very thin skin and the flies attack them thru out the summer months.

@randy23 Wow. I assumed it was behavioural since they were in a zoo. Do they not offer rubbing posts with fly treatments?

@angiadelle They do and they also have bug zappers out there. Not sure if the animals use them all the time though

@randy23 LOL I'm so sorry, it is really none of my business! Thank you for taking the time to answer. I studied veterinary science at university and flies really are a stepping stone issue that can be totally resolved in wolves and dogs with very inexpensive products made for cattle. Apparently I'm a little sensitive about it! :) I'll get off the soapbox and go back to appreciating your art!

@angiadelle Found out these wolves had been endangered and the zoo is in a program to repopulate them in the New Mexico Arizona area. They have no human contact so bug zappers are the only thing that helps with flies. Last year they took two of the pups to the New Mexico area and changed them with pups from a wild pack. It was cool to find out that wolves are family oriented and accepted them into their group.
