I'm not sure that this isn't a carpenter bee, as they seem to be around, but I've never seen one landing on flowers before. Could be I just never noticed.
@will_wooderson They are a good size. The flowers are phlox or thrift (whatever you might call them) and the leaf is ivy. That might help to give some perspective as to size.
