Thanks to all of you for your views and comments. I started with a candle, but didn't like the looks, so decided newspaper in my hibachi grill might work. Of course when I got outside, the wind started gusting a bit - nothing fearsome but something to consider nonetheless. Sitting beside the hose, I waiting until the wind died down and took a series of shots. Evidently I focused on the paper rather than the flames as you can see the edge of the paper is in focus. There's just not much of it left. Despite the coolness of the morning (out on the patio in my nightgown and it was probably in the low 50s) I stayed there until every glowing ember of the paper was out. I hope that I answered your concerns.
