Heracleum Giganteum by redandwhite

Heracleum Giganteum

This giant hogweed is by the river in Sandwich. It is a non-native invasive species and was introduced into Britain from the Caucasus Mountains as early as of 1817. They were widely planted in ornamental gardens throughout the UK, but are known to cause terrible chemical burns if the sap gets onto the skin in the presence of sunlight. At 10-12 feet tall, they are seriously impressive.
How splendid - I want some in the garden now:)
