Caught this train leaving the yard this afternoon. I thought the B&W gave it a little bit of an "old time" feel. What looks like banding in the sky is not apparent in the color version - I wonder if the conversion brought out high wispy overcast leftovers or if something in the conversion caused it. Hmmmmm. Any thoughts?
It's kind of hard to tell at that size and I don't know how you processed it but banding is often introduced when the image is converted to an 8bit jpg. It's usually worst in a featureless sky and it's caused when there are too few tones, spaced too far apart. Did you shoot raw and process in 16bit before converting to jpg?
@cindyrez@jaboney@sshoihet - Thank you for the compliments and feedback. Stephen - you are right; it was an almost featureless sky and while I shot in both raw and jpg, I only processed the jpg. When I have a little more time I will go back and give a shot at processing the raw image and see if I can improve it.
