There are about 300,000 Buddhist monks in Burma and about 20,000 Buddhist nuns, who shave their heads and wear pink robes.Girls enter monastic life to escape poverty, become educated and elevate their position in society. We visited a nunnery and had the opportunity to witness hundreds of nuns, ages 5 to 18, at meal time, study time, meditation and play time. This young nun was busy hanging up the laundry.
