A Thousand Pairs of Flip Flops

We spent a morning at one of the monastery schools near Yangon, interacting with the young nuns going through their daily routine. In Burma, shoes must be removed before entering a monastery or holy site. I should have taken the hint early on and and gotten a pair of flip flops ( the footwear of choice) because I always wore my lace-up Nikes and had to untie and tie them 20 times a day. It got to be a pain!
What did they wear before flip flops (jandals we call them) were invented!

Love the way the shoes carry us into the distance and the pink monk robes. Yep, slip on/off shoes work better there -- but then you have to walk in them!
