By 1880, the mining town of Bodie had every type of establishment, from jewelry stores to candy shops but not one church! So in 1882, the Methodist Church was completed. It could seat 100 people but services were not well attended. The Reverend Warrington described the town as a "sea of sin, lashed by the tempests of lust and passion."
They did such a superb job of preservation. I believe it's called something like suspended decay, where they stabilize the ruins and structures but don't actually restore them. Preserved but not restored? That may have changed, I don't know.
