This is a long shot of the pier at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography in La Jolla. Founded in 1903, Scripps is part of UC California and is one of the largest centers for ocean and earth science research in the world. The 1000-foot long concrete pier is not open to the public but the beach attracts surfers and beachgoers year round. BoB.
