Kauai is overrun with feral chickens and roosters. They are everywhere, on the beach, in the parking lot, at the airport, in the outdoor restaurants. They crow at dawn, and actually all day long. Some experts claim the poultry flew the coop during the big hurricane in 1992 and have continued to multiply. Locals consider them a nuisance. They are quite handsome and friendly-always looking for a handout.
this one is a handsome fellow. in the old country we didn't use to need a clock to wake up early. one rooster would start to crow and before you know it the whole rooster world is crowing. different story when you want to try to get more sleep and the neighbour's rooster won't stop. they should just capture one if they want a chicken dinner. 😊
Beautiful portrait. Could be right off the Kellogg's Corn Flakes box ;-)
Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island has Khalij pheasants. I saw one on a path. I immediately went into nature photographer stalking mode, hiding behind trees and crouching behind tall grasses. I didn't want to let a shot of that splendid bird get away and didn't want to scare it away because I was there. It didn't work. It saw me...and promptly walked over to me to ask for food. I didn't have any so it moved on to the parking lot to hit up visitors getting out of their cars. I did get a great picture of it, though.
very nice shot, elizabeth. aces!
