Today was the annual midwifery reunion picnic, a chance for families to go back and say hello to the lovely ladies who were responsible for helping to bring their children into the world. Both of my daughters' births were assisted by midwives, as were the children of many friends, so we still try to get out to the picnics when we can.
This is Serena and her friend Isabella. I like to joke that the two of them knew each other before they were born, as her mother and I met in prenatal class, and the girls ended up being born 3 weeks apart. Later they attended daycare together, and although Isabella has since moved on to another preschool, we still keep in touch. Isabella's mother noticed her standing next to Serena here and asked her what she was doing. "Don't worry, Maman," Isabella replied, "Serena's taking care of it," as Serena carefully dished out a plate of veggies for each of them.
