One of the things we liked about this house the first time we saw it was the open, two-story foyer. Here’s a view from the top with a new plant and a new bench. While the 90-degree turn of the staircase has made furniture-moving a challenge at times, it looks rather M.C. Escher-ish to me in this shot.* Be assured that there are no contradictions, though!
