At the lake

Today I went back to my local lake with my open water shell to implement what I learned at Craftsbury last weekend. I discovered that I have to make some serious adjustments to my rigger in order to use proper technique. That or I need to row a different boat (a true “single”)…

When I finished my row and the boat was back on the top of my car, I took some shots of the sky (with the sun unhappily low in the sky for 5:39 p.m.). I noticed a couple white flowers among the plants growing out of the shallow waters. I snapped two frames for the white flowers, but it turned out to be the “greens,” the red in a couple stems and the unusual structure of the flower head that had me choose this image to upload for today.

Does anyone know what plant or flower this is???

Update. From my local botanist: “Rose Mallow,” “Swamp Rose Mallow,” “Hardy Hibiscus” or, scientifically “Hibiscus moscheutos.”

Did you ever figure out what plant this is?

@espyetta It looks a bit like an hibiscus, but (a) I'm sure it's not and (b) I've submitted this to my "go-to" botanist!

@espyetta OMG, I was right on a quasi-educated *guess*: Hibiscus moscheutos (“Rose Mallow” or “Swamp Rose Mallow”).
