Still having fun with the antiquity theme. This “chest-on-chest” was my late mother’s gift from her parents (my late grandparents) on the occasion of her 16th birthday in 1952. We had it refinished and it became our younger daughter’s dresser and remains in her room for now. Lee McMeen, who did the refinishing in Carbondale, commented at the time that we just don’t see furniture like this anymore. Sadly. Craftsmanship just isn’t as profitable.
I took several shots from several different angles, although I drew the line at moving this beast to a place where I’d have more floor-space in which to work. I stood on the bed to shoot looking down and I took several to capture the entire piece, but once again I asked what is special about this piece and the four answers were its color, the “apron” between the 2nd and 3rd drawers, the wooden pulls and the shaping at the floor. So I got down on the floor to shoot this.

@digitalrn This one could stand a refinishing now and it would be worth it. I'm not sure how much (if any) contemporary furniture is designed and built with as much care any more...
What a nice piece of furniture. We have my father-in-laws dresser and chest of drawers. I use the dresser for my crafting supplies. It's has the dovetail joints and wooden bottoms between the drawers. No metal sliders in it. My husband and his brother used the furniture as kids. The were both percussionists and it shows on the tops. Lots of little dips from the sticks. I'm a percussion mom and I think it just adds character. 😊
