Under construction

Clare has a regular walking partner but today we have her youngest brother visiting with his twin daughters. After dinner, the five of us went for a walk through a subdivision that has two new homes still in the framing stage. While there are no walls or doors, we enjoy walking through these sites and figuring out what the spaces will be when it’s finished.

It turned out that this is how Clare first saw our current house. She walked through it while it was still being framed and thought at the time that she liked the floor plan.

Fast forward several years and Clare picked up our older daughter from an after-school activity along with a girlfriend. The girlfriend lived two doors away from this house and Clare noticed it was for sale. We saw it together the following day, came back with our almost-12 and almost-14 year old daughters two days after that and made an offer the following day. It’s now been home for 13+ years.

That could be a bit of a challenge trying to picture the space, but also could be fun. I remember doing that to the house we were building several years ago. As they were building it, we walked through the studded areas, and tried imagining what it was going ot be like. Then we never sold our current house, and had to let the new one go back on the market. I used to drive back to what was supposed to be our new home for several weeks after we signed it off, just wandering what it would have been like. Then the market crashed, and I now I am glad I am where I am. There's a reason for everything.

@digitalrn Sometimes things work out for the best and we have to be patient for the hindsight to see it. Sorry it didn't work out for you, Rick. At the same time, I'm glad it didn't work out for you, Rick. When we moved to our current house in '99, we were paying 2 mortgages for several months. I am so glad we weren't trying to sell in the last couple/few years!

@michelleyoung Thanks, Michelle. I've been very preoccupied the past week. House guests and then I finally realized what I ought to do and I registered at Butterflies And Moths Of North America (BAMONA) and have become serious about identifying the butterflies and moths (literally) in my back yard. Do all that stuff took some time...
