Spent the first half of the morning at the Orthopaedic Institute to have Clare’s wrist x-rayed again and evaluated after a mishap a week ago with the “Girls Make Movies” campers at the area roller rink. Turns out to be a fractured scaphoid bone (on her right hand, which is her “dominant” hand). Since hers is fractured at the “waist” of the bone, she is in a thumb-to-bicep cast for 5 weeks to completely immobilize the thumb. This will likely be followed by a thumb-to-forearm cast for another 4–6 weeks. After that, there is a small chance she will still require surgery. In the meantime, she will have to learn lots of tricks to accomplish otherwise-everyday and -simple tasks.
