Vanessa atalanta by rhoing

Vanessa atalanta

Yesterday I posted a butterfly I had only seen at the lake for the first time this summer — http://365project.org/rhoing/365/2013-06-03 — and so it is with this post, too. Saw this species at the lake in June but today I spotted this Red Admiral on campus. This particular insect really wanted this particular flower head, which was in a tough spot to photograph very easily. But the sunlight shining through its wings really highlights the highlights!

Confirmed at BAMONA as Vanessa atalanta or “Red Admiral”; http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/sighting_details/937074

Gah! I’d forgotten that I’d posted a Red Admiral before — http://365project.org/rhoing/365/2013-06-30 — sigh; another “senior moment”…

@vickisfotos Thank you, Vicki! I didn't have a lot of choice on POV without stepping on flowers into the garden...
