Ingredients from around the world

We pick up Grace at the airport in the morning tomorrow and Raymond & Jeanne are coming over to decorate (“ornament”) our Christmas tree and have dinner. Since we could be delayed by airline flights and traffic, Clare & I are trying to do as much of the food preparation as we can today.

Raymond enjoys champagne-based drinks and this is the “simple syrup” for a champagne cocktail. It contains a star anise (licorice-flavor), a cinnamon stick and whole cloves stuck in a halved Clementine for citrus.

Smelling this cook made me recall all the times I’ve heard and read about what a treat it was for 18th- and 19th-century families to get imported spices from all over the world. It certainly makes us think of autumn and Thanksgiving and Christmas!

This “attitude adjustment” will be:
» ½-shot of this simple syrup into a champagne flute
» some champagne
» topped with a bit of cranberry juice
» garnished with a few fresh cranberries and a cinnamon stick.
The recipe comes from a local restaurant. I’m guessing this should even improve the attitude of an economist…

It all sounds good, and I was surprised to hear you say, perhaps delays in the flights? Really? That would be unusual LOL

@digitalrn Yeah, no kidding, Rick! But actually, her flight was on time! Now we're following older daughter's flight before leaving the house: http://flightaware.com allows real-time flight tracking; it's just astonishing!

@michelleyoung It *was* delicious and Happy Christmas to you + the hobbits! How is your foot? Going to see if you've left a "photo-update"!
