Au revoir! by rhoing

Au revoir!

Closing my campus office door for the last time. Cleared & empty desk. Cleared table. Cleared (and cleaned) bookshelves. No “piles” on the floor. [Hey! Floor piles can be a very efficient filing system!] Now I have to find places at home for the things I have — at least for now — chosen to “save.” *That* task is daunting.

Not a very good photo, but done with my point-and-shoot, shooting into bright windows … and having a small “audience” of a couple [former] colleagues looking over my shoulder.

Humorous note. For the past many, many years, we have posted photos of all our graduate students in the main office to facilitate them getting to know each other. For the past several years, I have taken the photos. The department chair realized that he would have to find another “volunteer” among the faculty and staff to take these photos now that I have retired. (He did find another suc–uh, volunteer.)

Good idea to get a shot, but I bet you could move around that office in the dark, you knew it so well! Time for new things!

Best of luck in your retirement. I, too, believe in the efficiency if floor piles! Fortunately, I no longer have them, thanks to my scanner.

I'm sure there were some mixed feelings as you walked out of that chapter in your life
