“X Citrofortunella mitis” by rhoing

“X Citrofortunella mitis”

“Calamondin orange,” a hybrid between “Citrus reticulata” (“Mandarin orange”) and “Fortunella japonica” (“Kumquat”). “Citrofortunella microcarpa” is a synonym.

I had several images from the greenhouse (“Fittonia verschaffeltii” and “Strelitzia reginae”), but I kept coming back to this shot for its colors and clarity … even if I posted an image of this fruit earlier this year — http://365project.org/rhoing/365/2014-03-14 — that was a more whimsical post.

This shrub or small tree has small flowers,

and produces this fruit when it ripens, but it apparently takes a long time to ripen.
