My [retirement] education continues

I've just finished building work tables for Clare and me to use in the garage. I used coarse threaded screws like the one in the foreground, but I also discovered some fine threaded screws when I took apart a boat sling that a contractor built for us several years ago. I wondered when one would use the fine-threaded screws. Not finding an answer online, I consulted my BIL who flips houses. His reply: “Those [are] drywall screws, really the only commonly used screws to come in both coarse and fine threads. The fine threads are intended to attach drywall to steel studs, typically used in commercial construction but almost never in residential. Fine threads will work in wood, too, of course - it just takes more turns. There's some debate about which has more resistance to pulling out from wood, but the finer thread ones do strip more easily.”
All of that makes a lot of sense — thanks, Rich!
