Travel day. Saw this on US 6, east of Rollersville, OH (south side of the highway) last week and hoped to snap it today on our return drive.

With thanks to Kim, this is an Ohio Star quilt block. From

“We really don't know what quilters called this design during the Civil War years.
“Today we tend to call it Ohio Star (BlockBase #1631). Other published names include Variable Star, Eastern Star and Western Star. Carrie Hall gave it several names in her 1935 index to patterns, The Romance of the Patchwork Quilt, among them Texas Star and Ohio Star.”
I thought I was being clever taking shots with my dSLR *and* one shot with my GPS-capable P&S. But the GPS info didn't get written with the image, so I had to spend some time with Google maps heading west on US 6 in Ohio and looking for the out-building configuration. The red barns were no help; all the outbuilding roofs are silver!
This photo also made clear that I must "do something" for a serious cleaning of my camera. Sigh. There was a serious smudge on this image. I saw the *same* smudge on other images, and on the LCD panel with different lenses. I shouldn't be surprised. It's a 5½-year old camera and I change lenses often.
I'm going to check out the 365 discussions for advice, but I think I'm going to tackle this myself. It looks like I might be spending about $100+ for the necessary tools, but a professional- or factory-cleaning would probably run about the same, yes (plus two-way shipping)?
