American Lady by rhoing

American Lady

I submitted photos of four butterflies for ID’ing at BAMONA for today:
» Two were similar skippers I had to spend time to sort out,

and
http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/sighting_details/1088694
» One I expected to be an Eastern Tailed Blue, but realized was a Gray Hairstreak, http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/sighting_details/1088701
» But this one was — or so I thought — a slam dunk as a Painted Lady (Vanessa cardui). I guess I need to spend a bit o’ time to confirm even the slam-dunks! If I had managed to photograph the undersides of the wings, perhaps I would have realized it, but alas…

Confirmed at BAMONA as “Vanessa virginiensis” or “American Lady”; http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/sighting_details/1088703
