'Astyanax' Red-spotted Purple by rhoing

'Astyanax' Red-spotted Purple

I have only encountered this species once before and I was not camera-prepared for a good photo, http://365project.org/rhoing/365/2013-09-08

This one was flitting about the now-18"-underwater dock where I launched my rowing shell yesterday and today. Too many logistical issues, so I think I'll go back to the lake where I began on-water rowing.

Confirmed at BAMONA as subspecies “Limenitis arthemis astyanax” or “'Astyanax' Red-spotted Purple”; http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/sighting_details/1098490

Tara Thompson and I were just talking about these yesterday! I always see them in the ivy in the tall
Freeze behind the lake house. But now that hubby killed the ivy,I guess I won't. Boo hoo! But They were so high up I had to take the pics the ought he screen of our back porch... Not great shots anyway. Their name fascinates me... Since hey are mostly blue
