Houghton, Michigan. Copper Country. This is where my maternal ancestors settled and where my grandmother and her mother were born. And I had *never visited* until now. Hosted by a dear friend who has vacationed here most every summer since her childhood.
Today we finished the fourth leg of our 750+ mile journey to get here. Frank Lloyd Wright sites beckoned along the way, and we'll visit Taliesin "on the way" home.
When we arrived here and unpacked the car, we realized that we left our clothes-on-hangers in the hotel closet this morning. Sigh. A phone call confirmed and they are kindly boxing and mailing everything home.
I was astonished how "vertical" (north-south) this route was.
GPS longitude here: 88° 38' 18.5" W
GPS longitude home: 89° 15' 39.1" W
So only about 37.3 minutes of longitude different!
That's how far west the upper peninsula of Michigan goes.

@danette This has been a "bucket list" place for me to visit for some time. Our parents took my brother and sister one summer when I was in high school. But I had a summer job (and a driver's license), so I skipped that trip. :-(
