Gulf Fritillary

I brought my 55-250mm lens just for the butterflies, and the Gulf Fritillaries in particular.

They don't quite make it as far north as where we live.
» See BAMONA's sightings map and note where southern Illinois ends … although they have strayed as far north as Kansas City and north-of-Cincinnati.
» See BugGuide's data for this species and note how there are sightings to the north-and-west of me and north-and-east of me. Sigh.

This was taken near the resort building and pool at Hilton Head Island, SC.

ID’ed at BAMONA as Agraulis vanillae or “Gulf Fritillary”.
