This was someone’s ‘solution’?

Recessed latch? Star-drive deck screws for a door knob install? Really? Door knob packages come with screws. Big surprise that the latch doesn't catch… Worse, the hinges are improperly installed, too. Fortunately, I have Clare's house-flipping baby-brother only a text away, so I can confer on the problems and the prospective solutions.

The reality is that this was probably a get-the-house-ready-to-list-and-show task and the person who executed it probably cared neither for whether it was functional nor how it looked. As our 3-year old granddaughter now says reflexively, “PapaThom fix it.” Still, it's amazing what counts as “fixed” or “problem solved” for some people… And of course no pretense to stain, paint or polyurethane the door. Note the pencil mark to locate the latch assembly and knob.

Well, it certainly wouldn't pass an inspection! Thankful for Papa Thom!

@danette This Boston-area housing market is just insane. The most competitive offers come above asking and **no inspection**. It's. Just. Crazy.

Ha! We found several "solutions" during our renovation, a few that had to be fixed!

@danette On our Christmas visit, it took five layers of craft sticks (basically just wide popsicle sticks) to build out this mortise so the plate might be flush to the edge. Five.
