Year of the Tiger [Swallowtail]

This is the main species of butterfly I am seeing this year. The blue wash on the hind wings indicates a female, though this “light-morph” differs greatly from the “dark-morph” that occurs in females through much of the species’ range, especially in southern states (BugGuide).

* A single specimen was captured by a boy at Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland in late September (or early October) 1932 and is believed to have been accidentally imported from North America.
