Oakham Castle

Very cold wet day today so visited Oakham Castle that has recently been renovated following a grant. It's a tradition that any visiting peers to the realm donate a horse shoe on their visit. It's still also used as a crown court although only once every 2 years to keep its title. My dad's claim to fame is that he made 2 of the horseshoes when he worked at a local blacksmiths in the 70's
loads of good luck there!

Those horses must have been huge. I'd hate to have to clear up after them 🙂

I love how rituals and traditions survive the tests of time, and manage to stay alive. And to lay claim to being related to the honouring of this tradition must make you smile! Lovely image.

Nice symmetry...Doesn't the luck run out when the horseshoes are pointed down?
