We went for a really nice walk late this afternoon around Rudyard Lake (from where Kipling takes his name). There's a nature reserve at the far end of the lake and we spotted this great crested grebe nesting there. There was a nesting coot too, just out of sight in this photo. I had a lot of photos to choose from today and you can see more of the lake and the walk here:

Thanks! I got lucky with the light at this moment before another batch of gloomy cloud rolled over. Last spring Dave was living in Wolves and we watched some grebe families at Himley Hall - we saw them nesting and then went back to see the chicks. I see quite a lot of grebes on local reservoirs, but it is often hard to get close.
