I took park in the RSPBs Big Garden Birdwatch today. This involves sitting for an hour and seeing which birds visit your garden, counting the highest number of each species seen at one time.
I only had visitors of 11 different species during my hour, which is a bit disappointing as there are so many other species I regularly see in the garden who didn't visit whilst I was watching. But I only watched for an hour and the weather wasn't very nice so I wouldn't blame some birds for staying hidden away!
Here's my list:
4 blackbirds, 3 dunnocks, 2 blue tits, 2 great tits, 17 house sparrows, 3 robins, 1 wood pigeon, 2 pheasants, 3 crows, 1 wren, 2 starlings.
Good to see the starlings. Their beaks are so sharp and your photo shows this perfectly. It does look a bit of a wet time but well done you for sitting it out.
Nice shot. That sounds like a pretty impressive list to me. Sparrows, dunnocks and starlings are birds I do not get in my garden. We do get an awful lot of blue tits and great tits as well as coal tits and from time to time a flock of long tailed tits.
@shirleybankfarm Starlings are a new thing here, they're not birds I've ever seen locally until recently but I see them on the feeders in small numbers sometimes now. I was disappointed that the coal tits and long tailed tits didn't appear during my watch. No finches visited either!
I did the birdwatch last year. You had a good number of house sparrows.
