Migrating Monarch by robv

Migrating Monarch

The population of Monarchs West of the Rockies overwinters along the Central/Southern California coast in groves of trees. These groves maintain the right combination of temperature/humidity and shelter from winter storms allowing them to survive until the following spring. This female just finished feeding on these Salvia microphylla blooms, on her way.
I look forward to the Monarch's return every year. I live very close to an overwintering grove. Hope it's a good year for them. Last year's numbers were low. Very artistic capture!

The way it's positioned in the frame gives it a feeling of escape. Very cool.
