This is super cool. I've never had a close look at a Black Widow, and I didn't know their spinnerets were so visible. The rest of the detail is captivating. Well done!
Very nice pic!!!! I only kill them when I find them in my garage. I'm afraid to relocate this particular one. I wouldn't venture 3cm from one no matter where I found it.( but should I ever change my mind, I won't disturb the web or stir the air-this probably won't happen) Thanks for posting this one!!!
Nice capture! I agree with @hinhoutbay, I wouldn't get that close to one with my P&S. Honestly, if I were that close, I would have to destroy the thing! :)
Lovely shot; certainly looks scary with that red back. I believe she's related to our Redback Spider and they are both pretty venomous. We have to be careful when lifting anything with a rim on it in the yard.
Fantastic! Hear so much about these but of course here in UK never seen one! Great close up, such detail, bad press!! Thanks for your kind comments on my pictures.
@clarissajohal She does look rather plump, she could very well be readying herself for laying eggs. Just need some warm weather after the rather chilly and wet week we've had in SoCal.
Ha--she won't be a widow for long...she's on the Popular Page. Now all the little boy spiders are going to be asking her out on a date....we won't tell them of their fate though
This is a very creepy shot. I would never venture this close to one and would definitely kill it knowing how dangerous they are. But I have a big fear of spiders so I would probably just stay away from it to begin with. I commend you for getting a nice shot of it though.
Always 4 or 5 of these guys in the sprinkler shutoff at our old townhouse in Mt View, CA. Grew up with them in TX, so I let them be. They always seemed so docile, but I guess I never really disturbed them. That's a really nice one.
Here in Missouri (some call it Misery) we're in the middle of Brown Recluse territory. Every single lake house we've rented has been full of them. They really creep me out. And the are seriously fast runners. My sis-in-law was likely bitten by one. Her condo was infested as is her brother's house on my block. Not sure how we've escaped them, but maybe it's because I let scores of cellar spiders live in peace in my basement, hoping they'll keep the bad boys out.
My neighbor brought one over last weekend to ask if it was what she thought it was. It was attractive, but I was glad it was already dead when she found it laying on a dead leaf in her driveway.
Great shot,Im not scared of them until they come near me,Thanks for your kind words on my tribute to Edd,You will know how hard it is having had chameleons yourself,I dont think i will ever find one with his personality again x
I hope you used a SUPER zoom for this.
Great shot!
