Purple Beetle 2 by robv

Purple Beetle 2

This is a species of Buprestid beetle native to the desert Southwest, Chrysobothris gemmata. This one is from south of Tucson, Arizona. Sorry to use a specimen from my collection but my transporter/time machine isn't functioning right now. :) Taken with 100mm macro and dual flash bracket.
Another great macro pic,I have to get that lens!

@bribuccigrossi Get it! I feel no guilt contributing to the delinquency of a major.

So beautiful I enjoy your photos they bring a smile to my face. Thanks for your comment about the juice - made me laugh! It is too much but had nothing else going for that day!

How big is this one? I googled, but the results weren't simple enough for this late at night. Nice texture & spots. Nice purple!

@molizard It's about 20mm, say 3/4 of an inch for those not on the metric system. :) They are fun to track down and catch, very wary but they tap the branch they are on with their bodies to communicate with each other. I have been able to find them just by listening for the tell tale tapping, now it taps nevermore!

@wahyusp I'm learning and experimenting, ordered some diffusers to even out the illumination some. Need to get out and find live subjects once I get the kinks worked out. Your work has been very motivational!
