Abstract spatula by robz

Abstract spatula

This seems to be easier than taking an abstract photo directly - does it still count as a spatula? Maybe too far gone?
wow! that's really abstract.but works well

@marcy0414 @sarahlth Hi Marcy and Sarah- thanks for the encouragement. Still trying to come to grips with plain and abstract - probably not really important but it is annoying me. This is a good topic to play with - it gives lots of opportunities. Cheers Rob

@robz I know what you mean. I was honored to win the vote for my Galileo Thermometer, but maybe I should have entered that in the regular mundane challenge? Still not too sure. And I have an idea for a spatula photo that I am not too sure which category is a better fit.

@marcy0414 @sarahlth Hi again - Marcy - Sarah has a suggestion re an independent abstract challenge divorced from the mundane challenge. It sounds like a good idea. I wondered if you would like to contact her about it?

@robz I am so new to this that I wouldn't want to be a part of deciding, but it's an Interesting idea to think about. I do like that both challenges seem open to the photographer to interpret. @sarahlth

@marcy0414 @sarahlth I'm pretty new to all of this too. I like Sarah's idea of the independent abstract challenge (would help with the learning curve too!!) - still having the two Mundane strands. Unfortunately, I don't quite know the correct pathway to try to introduce a new challenge. Sarah - do you have some idea of what would be involved? P.S. Marcy - Sorry - forgot to answer your question -your galileo therm was great - could it be considered abstract because it had stripped away the main part of the apparatus and just focused on the small label on that one section? It required thought to see the relationship to temp. Could that be a rough indicator - the need for thought rather than an image which is immediately identifiable? Tricky - but interesting.

@marcy0414 @robz Thanks for your comments. Rob I replied on your other image before I saw this. I think I am going to do a bit more research online to see what is considered abstract. My feeling is that the problem with having the abstract tied with an object means that people feel that the object needs to be obvious which is not necessarily true with abstract images.

What I would like to do by trying a new challenge, is give people more freedom to be artistic in an abstract way and encourage more abstract images on the site. @robz
Also in answer your question Rob, there is a post currently about starting a new challenge which seems helpful.

@sarahlth Hi Sarah - I will be really interested to hear what your research shows. From what you have mentioned here it sounds as if it would be ideal to have a stand alone challenge along the lines of your suggestion. It would easily differ from the mundane-abstract and not detract from it. I'll read the post that you mentioned. Sounds exciting - I personally would really like it!
