Banksias don't usually cope well in a fire. Few of them regenerate. However, many of them need a fire to force their seed pods to open and release their seeds. That is what has happened here - hopefully (after some rain?) new plants will germinate.
@jacqbb Hi Jacqueline - thanks for your response. A lot of Aussie vegetation has characteristics which allow the species to survive after a fire. It's a very interesting topic. Cheers Rob
