The Cazneaux Tree by robz

The Cazneaux Tree

This tree was photographed in 1937 by Harold Cazneaux in a picture entitled "The Spirit of Endurance" His image brought him international recognition.
With a height of 29 metres (95 ft) and a circumference at the base of 11.4 metres (37 ft) the tree dominates the otherwise flat arid plateau normally composed primarily of grasslands or bare earth. The mountains seen in the background are those forming Wilpena Pound.
Love it, love it, love it. It's a great tree isn't it?

@golftragic It really is quite something - you can see why he was fascinated by it. It was interesting to compare what he saw and what is there today - they truly are amazing how they can survive and grow in some of the places where they're found.

@robz I agree. I've seen some red-gums surviving that by all measures should have had no hope. Amazing trees, but don't camp underneath them.
