So many Grey Nomads.... by robz

So many Grey Nomads....

Qld caravan parks are doing well - the borders to other states are closed so many Qlders are taking to the road while visitor numbers are down...
It would be interesting to guess the total net worth of all of the rigs in some of these parks - Most of the van/4WD combos are worth more than $150,000 and in some places there have been dozens and dozens of them. This is at Cania Gorge - a bit off the coastal track and not as many of the huge rigs appeared here - all 4WDs though.
An interesting concept - its the same here in NZ. Being a grey nomad myself at the moment, I have been surprised and pleased about the number of New Zealanders out discovering our own country too. Feeling very lucky to be able to travel around in the South Island.

Very interesting. We were expecting more caravans on the roads, to avoid hotels and b&bs because of COVID, but that’s not the impression I had. There were many tourists around, mainly Italians but also many Dutch and Germans. We have made a big tour of the country, seeing things that we had not seen before or re-visiting places that we like. After all not being able to go abroad was enriching and pleasant. And helpful for all those hotel and restaurant owners that lost money during the long lockdown. P.S. why are they called grey nomads?

Great shot of all these campers and equipment. Sure looks like a lot of money standing there.

@kiwinanna Hi Liana - we are so very lucky to be able to move around - and it has been wonderful to visit or revisit so many beautiful sites. Hopefully the virus will continue to remain nearly under control in both our countries. Your South Island is so gorgeous - you must be having a wonderful time. Cheers Rob

@aikiuser LOL Jenn - it didn't strike me until I read your comment - you are so correct - so many of the 4WDs on our roads are white or silver - we must be a very conservative lot! :)

@gilbertwood Hi Denise - it's been so good to see Victoria's numbers gradually coming down. You seem to have had such a hard time just because of some poor organization. Hopefully we'll all be able to move around again in our lovely country in the near future. :)

@koalagardens That's marvellous news for you Katrina. It must have been horrible to be isolated from your family for such a long time. Hopefully travel restrictions will just continue to ease in the near future. :)

@caterina Hi Caterina - it was marvellous to hear that you have been able to travel safely around your delightful country. Sometimes we forget how lucky we are in the places in which we live - this virus has really reminded us of that.
The term "grey nomad" refers to people who have retired (therefore often have grey hair), and then bought caravans and 4WDs to tow them and move around the country from area to area, depending on the season - often the caravan is their only home. Hence the "nomad" part.
Cheers Rob
