How did you do that!? I've never been to California, but well, forever, pictures like this are what they sell for California! It's awesome! Gorgeous, fav!
@shirljess@edorreandresen@cindyrez@ozziehoffy@peterdegraaff Special thanks for the fav's, y'all. I took this from the hospital window and edited from my laptop. I thank you all for giving me encouragement and support to use photography and this site as self therapy. Cheers.
@rockinrobyn Over the past 12 months I have had a pretty hard time, and it is those moments immersing myself in the practice of taking photos myself that give me a lot of healing, hope and renewal on a daily basis to find and keep in contact with me. The encouragement I get from the 365 community including exploring film has been a strength. Sometimes pursuing our own interests and sanity can be difficult in in a world that valuing altruism, but it is these moments, that lets us return more strongly to our compassion for others. It is wonderful that you are so strongly supportive of your friend and her family. Just saying...sas they say!
BTW did I ever tell you how much I liked Scottsdale. We stayed at the Hotel Valley Ho. What a stylish retro place that is?!
@peterdegraaff That's where we are lodging now, actually! It is incredibly stylish in its retro decor. David, Michele's husband, laments that Michele can't see it for herself because he knows she would love it. What a small world!
@rockinrobyn Who would have guessed? We had a suite on first floor with the most amazing couches. We flew from Australia to LA, and then a connecting flight to Phoenix, so when we arrived we were pretty zonked. It was amazing for us to see people lying in deck chairs around the pool. Something we don't tend to here as we go to the beach. The bathroom was amazing, and the scent of the soaps was fabulous after such a long flight. I remember we had a lovely dinner in the restaurant with a Chardonnay from I think San Berndadino. It was quite simple and delicious. The breakfast the following morning was great, and it was here I had my first taste of grits. After dinner we walked down the main street and looked at all the galleries. We then drove to the Grand Canyon via Montezumas Castle and Sedona. Stayed at the South Rim for 5 days and went hiking, rafting, etc. Might have to dig out a photo of the Ho to post. There is so much more to see there and would love to get back one day
@rockinrobyn PS actually so glad you are staying at the Valley Ho. It is just so hard to describe to others how cool it was unless you have been there.
@peterdegraaff I'm enjoying reading about your visit. When I got in, it was after 10:00 and the restaurant/outside lounge area were hopping. We had a late dinner there last night after a long day at the hospital. The food was delicious and the wine, too. I think we're going to venture down to the main street tonight, provided Michele stays stable. She's on a lot of morphine so she's konked out most of the time. But, when she wakens, it is priceless to be here. She has a tracheostomy and can't talk, but she mouthed "you rock" when she saw me. I wanted to cry and tell her that's my 365 name! :)
@rockinrobyn You do rock! It is great that Michele is getting some consciousness and you are there for her too. I am off now to film Melody with her horses after getting some coffee and cakes to take out to the paddocks. She does Parelli and Horse Agility which is her passion. After we were at the Grand Canyon we made our way across the Southwest so she could go to a Parelli Colt Starting event in Fort Worth. BTW they upgraded our car at Avis in Scottsdale to an SUV which was nice. Take care.
Robin, this is an incredible image. I've just read your dialogue with Peter. It is quite incredible what you are doing to support your friend Michele, what a remarkable and true friend you are. +F
Were you there? Jealous. I just saw a personalized licence plate that said your title abbreviated and it made me tear up and miss home there a little. I don't know when I will ever return. Great fun shot, Robyn!
@amandalomonaco This is actually taken from a hospital in Scottsdale, Arizona, so not as fun and carefree as it would appear with the post-processing. I was just bound and determined to make something out of nothing from my cell phone shots. I was surprised this one was so well received, but the California dream sparks a certain feeling, only if nostalgic, doesn't it?
Really great colors. Cool shot Robyn! (I'm so glad you were able to visit with your friend and be such a wonderful support. Friendship is such a powerful thing. You do rock. :) I hope things have improved for your friend.)

So how is your friend getting on?
