While on out bird walk at Santa Anna NWR we got some good looks at a nice Loggerheaded Shrike,aka butcher bird. So nicknamed because of the way they kill their prey. such as insects, lizards, rodents, and small birds—on thorns, sharp twigs. Sometimes even hanging them on barbed wire fences.
