SOOC Empty Hall by rosiekerr

SOOC Empty Hall

Feel free to skip on down. :) My mother-in-law's empty hallway, waiting for the movers to arrive tomorrow morning. Almost there...

Offered for Richard Sayer's @vignouse "back to basics" challenge this month, explained here: http://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/26200/back-to-basics-nf-sooc-2015.

Busy, complex days. Thanks for stopping by.
I like this a lot

@cejaanderson Oh, Jane.... that is just beautiful. So generous of you to point that poem out. Brings a tear to my eye, for heaven's sake. Thank you.

@cejaanderson PS... I love that the poet is from the midwest and that his book title ends in one of my favorite expressions, "holy cow!" :)

So poignant, Rosie...this must be such a hard time.

Good portrayal of emptiness.

@taffy It is complex, but I think it is the right thing to do. I am hoping that many burdens of home ownership are lifted from her. Plus, she has the increased social engagement. Almost like going to college... when you are 80. ;)

@rosiekerr I actually think this is a good time for her to move -- while active and with plenty of time to take advantage of the better social setting. Especially having returned from visiting my mom -- at 92 in her own place, but without a lot of people to socialize with. I don't think that's a good situation but now moving to assisted living seems so fraught with 'final move' associations for her.

@taffy That is the thought... you can't wait till it is too late. I hope your mom is doing OK. 92 sounds frail. Maybe more, off-line?

@rosiekerr off-line....

you've done such a good job capturing the sense of impending move, emptying a house, and all that. Good luck . . . I emptied my mother's house and moved her to the USA 6 years ago, and she had lived in her home for 35 years. She's now living in a senior apartment complex that offers various activities and lunch time socializing.

@cejaanderson very nice - I enjoyed that poem! Your MIL will be happy in her new place - could almost guarantee it!

This really conveys the mood. Love the repeating patterns and patches of light.
