Obstacle In The Path

Sometimes, I take my point and shoot camera with me when I run (multitasking). This was laying in the middle of the sidewalk... what the heck is it? Anyone know? It looked like a brain, for heaven's sake. I guess a spectator would have thought that I lost my brain, laying on my stomach in the middle of the sidewalk. :)

Thanks for your kind reception of my "200%" project anniversary shot from yesterday. Quite the milestone. This continues to be a very enriching journey.

Thanks, too, for stopping by.
It's an Osage Orange. http://www.gpnc.org/osage.htm

Great pov, Rosie! I can just imagine you laying on the sidewalk. This is indeed an Osage Orange, like Skip said.

@skipt07 @janetb Thanks, guys! I knew that folks would have the answer. :)

@skipt07 yup that is what it is...our a monkey brain.

It does look like a brain -- creepy finding it in the path even if it turned out to be an orange!

@skipt07 I liked seeing this and learning about it too!

I see by your tag that you wondered if it was a breadfruit. That's the closest fruit I've ever seen that resembles it I've never seen this one, and find the information interesting, especially Skip @skipt07 link! Thanks for that...fascinating!

Great colour, but wouldn't have a clue as to what it is! Did you lie on the footpath to take the shot? That's dedication for you.

It's a hedge apple. In Kansas, trees were planted in hedgerows to serve as wind breaks. they are also know as Osage oranges. Lore has it that you should place one in your house to repel crickets.

Love the texture!

@golftragic Yes... yes, I did lay down. It was a point and shoot camera. What else to do? :)

Ha, ha. I thought you had processed it in Dreamscope or something.

@rosiekerr LOL. If I got down there I'd probably have to stay there, and that'd be a tad embarrassing.

It looks huge from your POV.

The locals here call these orbs "Hedge Balls" as they come from the hedge trees that grow at the edges of cornfields or along property lines. Super DOF choice as the background is perfectly blurred.

@randystreat I was laying on the sidewalk. :) It was pretty big, but the "tummy perspective" helped.

@lyndemc I was proud of my little p&s Canon on this point. :)

very brave of you to lie down on the road to take this shot. I normally just bend down and point the camera in the right direction and shoot.
Great colours and dof
