The Gateway Arch turns 50 years old today. 630 feet tall and 630 feet wide. They were supposed to turn on the gold lights to illuminate the structure in celebration. Nothing. Waited an hour, got chilly and left. Grrr. Usually, it is at least lit up with some lights. Dark tonight. Still, at least I found the park in Illinois where you can get the good view. Maybe another trip later?

I remember driving by this with my Mom and Dad when I was 13, and wanted so badly to go up in the special elevator that it has, and the line was wayyyy to long, so we just stopped and walked underneath it. Can you say 'bucket list?' Yes, I will take the special elevator some day!
Too bad you didn't get to see the lights. Doesn't matter though because you got a great shot anyway! We've always wanted to go to the park to see this view at sunset. Will do it when we get a free evening - hopefully before winter sets in!
