This is a red hawk who was hanging around the parking lot of a retirement home, where I visit frequently. I spent some time creeping about, trying to catch him in the trees. Suddenly, he just fell like a stone from the tree, into this ground cover. He must have seen something in there, because he was stirring the leaves with his wings and poking his head down underneath the leaves.
Apparently, the only way I can shoot birds outside is when they fall from a tree, to land right in front of me. ;) Anyway, something a little different.
Thanks for visiting. Thanks for your kindness towards my "trompe l'oeil" street shot from yesterday, too. Christmas... almost here. Enjoy the holidays, to those who celebrate.

A bird photographer after my own heart! I think your technique could work for me as well -- must try it sometime...but how do you make it fall out of the tree in front of you with any predictability? Seems to be a potential flaw in my plan.
I'm so jealous, and yet, I'm so glad you got this. I haven't been birding at all because my zoom is broken. I saw this yesterday and fav'd, but now I'm back to tell you how much I absolutely, absolutely love it. I missed a hawk right on my lawn the other day (according to my husbsand--jeez). Happy Holidays to you!
