There is a bike trail, called the "Katy Trail," which runs across the state of Missouri. It uses the old railroad line for its gravel bed, following the railroad stops which used to exist in these tiny towns along its route.
Behold the now-vacant Mercantile Company Building, in Treloar, Missouri (a new town to me, despite my many years here) one town along this trial. The town consists of a square. One. Square.
Built around 1899, it sits vacant, sign hanging. I guess this building used to double as the town bank, too. I really liked the rocking horse in the window, along with the dangling sign.
Apparently, there is a newly renovated bar in the town, which reportedly serves good food and has friendly people inside. I do enjoy playing tourist in my own state. :)

Very cool trail. I rode the one in Wisconsin many years ago and was impressed with how comfortable it was in the rail bed. Terrific capture of a by gone era.
