Father of the Navy by rosiekerr

Father of the Navy

The is the crypt of John Paul Jones, son of Scotland, immigrant to the US and father of the American Navy, serving during the Revolutionary War.

Located on the grounds of the US Naval Academy, underneath the chapel, his remains came home during the presidency of Theodore Roosevelt (after an extended search, he was found in Paris). It was quite ornate, as you can see.

Now I am caught up. Yay. Thanks for visiting and enduring my natteringly boring historical offerings of recent days.
Wow, nice capture of this!

I never knew any of this about his burial and this wonderful display. That was someone's exciting find, I am sure. History is not boring with mysteries like this to solve (said the retired history teacher).
