Lots of history in this castle, one of many, dotted about the landscape.
The present structure was built about 1425. Extensive restoration began in 1945. It was first opened in 1962. Lord and Lady Gort were patrons of the restoration. Lady Gort's portrait appears in the back of the room.
This castle was like a rabbit warren. So many twisting, curving stairs and rooms. Over the front entrance, a "murder hole," from which the inhabitants can dump burning unpleasantness on people (with battering rams) standing at the front door.
Also, some brilliant food across the road, from the Creamery. Try the sticky toffee dessert, with ice cream.

You must be in 7th heaven, what a marvellous historical site for a photographer. I can well imagine the roast boar on the table and lots of raucous laughter in here.
